Nawazuddin’s brother Shamas Siddiqui summoned by ED for online fraud case

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui and brother Shamas Nawab Siddiqui are currently under the scanner owing to an online fraud case. The two were summoned by the Enforcement Directorate to appear at its Lucknow office today, however, Shamas reached there with his lawyer sans Nawaz.
Shamas claims that these allegations are baseless and they have shown all the papers to the authorities. As Nawaz failed to attend the meet, Shamas cleared that he was unavailable due to his work commitments.

Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, who is representing Mr. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, stated, “There seems to be a lot of chaos and confusions with regards to a summons received by my client Mr. Nawazuddin Siddiqui from the Directorate of Enforcement. In this regard I would therefore like to clarify once and for all that my client has only rendered services for a Company named Webwork Trade Links Pvt. Ltd. as a  professional (Actor), and he has no other dealings with the said Company which is under investigation conducted by the Enforcement Directorate. The remuneration that my client had legally and justifiably received towards his professional services had been duly declared to every concerned government department on time, even prior to the investigation. My client who has followed the provisions of law at every stage has absolutely nothing to fear or hide, as there is no guilt. The Enforcement Directorate which is investigating the said matter has been accordingly briefed from our side.”

Rizwan further added, “Nawaz did a Television Commercial (TVC) for a product called "adsbook.com". The agreement was a period of one year. He received his legitimate remuneration and after that he was not concerned with the Company called Webwork Trade Link Pvt. Ltd.  The Company faced problems with the Enforcement directorate and Nawazuddin was just routinely summoned. We have briefed the Enforcement directorate with the facts of the matter.”

This entire fraud came to light when the Lucknow Zone of the Enforcement Directorate while investigating an e-commerce Ponzi scheme, discovered links between the directors of Webwork Trade Links Private limited and Siddiqui. Probe details revealed that Nawaz was paid nearly Rs 1.15 crores for an endorsement deal by company directors. The actor was summoned to put across his explanation in this case.
