The first phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 is starting from tomorrow and the political parties are busy fielding popular film stars and celebrities to contest the elections. After Urmila Matondkar, the newest actor-turned politician on the block is none-other-than veteran actor Sharmila Tagore who is all set to contest the elections from Gurugram on Indian National Congress’ ticket.
Reportedly, Sharmila will soon be inducted into the party and will be fielded from the city. The party will soon be making an official announcement about the same. Urmila has already filed her nominations from Mumbai North region and will be taking on Bharatiya Janta Party’s Gopal Shetty.
Several other celebrities’ name has also been rumoured including Salman Khan but besides Urmila none of them have joined active politics. In fact, Govinda had a long meeting with Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh but nothing materialized out of it. Govinda had previously joined active politics and had contested and won elections from Mumbai beating veteran politician Ram Naik. However, he had soon left politics.
From the BJP’s side, Bhojpuri superstar Nirahua is contesting elections from Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has also joined active politics and will be contesting elections from Delhi on behalf of Bharatiya Janta Party.
