Tinsel town is full of liars, show-offs and spineless hypocrites: Tanushree Dutta slams Ajay Devgn for working with MeToo accused Alok Nath in De De Pyaar De

Tanushree Dutta who kickstarted the #MeToo movement last year has slammed Ajay Devgn and the makers of his upcoming film De De Pyaar De for working with Alok Nath. The veteran actor has been accused of rape and harassment by producer-writer Vinta Nanda. In a statement, Tanushree wrote, “Tinsel town is full of liars, show-offs and spineless hypocrites. And it seems by a large public consensus that the signpost is pointing currently at Ajay Devgn."

Tanushree said that the makers should have re-shot Alok’s scenes once the allegations against him were made public and a case was lodged. However, they kept the alleged rapist in the film to trivialize the #MeToo movement and rub it on not only on Vinta’s but on everyone’s faces. She accused Ajay for supporting Alok’s dwindling career and helping him make a comeback to Bollywood and said, “Nobody even knew before the posters and trailers that Alok Nath is in the film so if Ajay Devgn and the makers wanted they could have just quietly replaced him and re-shot his portions.”

Ajay had earlier spoken about Alok’s casting in the film during the trailer launch of De De Pyaar De and had said, “This is not the right place to talk about it. And jinki aap baat kar rahe hai woh film uske pehle complete hui (the film was completed before the allegations surfaced against the concerned person).” Ajay had earlier expressed his support to #MeToo movement on social media. He had stated that he wouldn’t work with anyone who has been alleged of grave sexual misconduct. In a tweet posted in October, last year he had stated that he and his production house will not cater to such misconduct.

However, later in an interview, Ajay had said that he was shocked by some of the names that got added to the #MeToo perpetrators’ list but he can’t be judgmental till somebody proves someone guilty. De De Pyaar De also stars Tabu, Rakul Preet Singh and Jimmy Sheirgill. It is directed by Akiv Ali and produced by Luv Ranjan. The film is slated to release on May 17.
