Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir told me that he really liked the teaser: Alia Bhatt reveals what SLB said about Kalank

Karan Johar’s production Kalank has been compared with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films ever since its trailer dropped. The grand opulence and the set designs reminded everyone of Bhansali’s films like Devdas, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Now in an interview, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan who stars in Kalank along with Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunal Kemmu have revealed what was Bhansali’s reaction after he watched Kalank’s teaser.

Alia was asked about the comparisons drawn between Kalank and Bhansali’s films and drawing inspiration for the song Ghar More Pardesiya from his films, she said, “Yes, it's more Bhansali like but actually, technically speaking, no one has really touched that world except for Sanjay Leela Bhansali. And Abhishek Varman, director of Kalank himself is a very big self-proclaimed, self-confessed fan. So he is very inspired by him. Even when I met Sanjay sir I told him please tell me what do you think about the teaser and he really liked it."

Varun further added to the conversation and said, “Even when I met him, when he knew about this film, he said, 'Mujhe koi kuch poochta hi nahi hai (nobody asks me anything). Madhuri-Alia together, I would love to work on a song, give music to a song on them.' I had in fact then asked Alia that what did he say to you when he saw your song."

Kalank is a period drama set in the 1940s. It registered the year’s highest opening and has crossed Rs 50 crores till now at the box office. Alia and Bhansali will soon be teaming up in Inshallah that stars Salman Khan in the lead.
