His contribution to our nation will always be remembered: Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and others mourn the demise of former President Of India Pranab Mukherjee


Former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, better known as Citizen Mukherjee, breathed his last at the age of 84 on August 31, 2020. The Bharat Ratna has tested COVID-19 positive and had undergone surgery for a brain clot at Army Hospital a few weeks ago. The veteran Congressman passed away after being in a deep state of comatose. Mukherjee's son Abhijit, on Twitter, shared the heartbreaking news. He said, "With a Heavy Heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away in spite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers,duas & prarthanas from people throughout India! I thank all of You Folded hands."

Soon after the news broke, Bollywood celebrities offered heartfelt condolences. Akshay Kumar, on Twitter, shared a picture with Mukherjee and wrote, "Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of former President of India Shri #PranabMukherjee Sir. His contribution to our nation will always be remembered. Had the good fortune of sharing this special moment with him. My heartfelt condolences to his family and followers"

Priyanka Chopra Jonas tweeted, "A visionary, leader and the former President of India Hon Shri Pranab Mukherjee Sir. Your contributions towards the growth of our nation will forever be remembered. Heartfelt condolences to the family."

Varun Dhawan shared a picture of Mukherjee and said, "RIP sir .2020 has been an extremely hard year for one and all. We have lost a great leader today. Prayers and strength to the family."

Vijay Varma recalled the time when the team of Pink met Mukherjee and shared a picture. "Feb 2017, Rashtrapati Bhavan. The whole #Pink team was super thrilled to take our movie to the special screening for the then Hon’ble President Pranab Mukherjee. Here’s Big B introducing the team to him. It was all so surreal. His passing brought back all these memories. They don’t make Em’ like that anymore," he wrote.

Vijay's Pink co-star Taapsee Pannu wrote, "Had the honour of meeting him, watching #Pink in his presence , followed by a very warmly hosted dinner for the entire team. Can never forget the experience, his kind words n gesture that day. You will be missed sir "

Anushka Sharma, on Instagram, wrote, "Saddened to hear the news about our former President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. Our condolences and prayers with his family and loved ones" 

Ajay Devgn tweeted, "India loses a great statesman & respected leader My condolences to the family."


Kiara Advani, Sara Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh mourned the demise of Mukherjee. 

Riteish Deshmukh, Anil Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar and Shilpa Shetty offered condolences.
