Watch: ‘If Anurag Kashyap was such a good person, why his wives left him,’ says Payal Ghosh on her sexual assault allegations against the filmmaker

Payal Ghosh has levied serious sexual assault allegations against Anurag Kashyap. The actress who has done films such as Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi and Prayanam, has claimed that Anurag tried to molest her once, recalling an incident when he got naked in front of her and tried to get intimate with her. Her allegations created a furore in Bollywood with several celebs coming out in support of Anurag and calling him ‘the biggest feminist’.

However, today the actress gave interviews regarding the alleged incident that happened in 2014. She claimed that the incident still haunts her and she came out only now because she was motivated by a fellow Telugu actress friend who told her to voice out her unfortunate incident. In the interview, she said, “I tried to open up about it several times, but my family, my manager and close friends asked me to be silent to avoid any problem in the future. I wanted to talk about it, but I was silenced. We should talk about it so that people like him don't abuse their position of power. I was forced to delete my earlier Twitter and Facebook posts that hinted at this incident. It is very important to speak up about these issues, and truth should come forward."

These allegations are completely false, malicious and dishonest. It is sad that a social movement as important as the #metoo movement has been co-opted by vested interests and reduced to a mere tool for character assassination. Fictitious allegations of this nature seriously undermine the movement and seek to unconscionably trade upon the pain and trauma of actual victims of sexual harassment and abuse. My client has been fully advised of his rights and remedies in law and intends to pursue them to the fullest extent,” read the full statement.

I only related what Anurag told me during the sexual assault incident. It is for him to give a clarification why he took their names and not for me.”
