Former India captain Kapil Dev underwent angioplasty at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (Okhla Road) in the wee hours today after he complained of chest pain. Kapil was taken to the emergency department at 1 am after which he was examined and an emergency ‘coronary Angioplasty surgery’ was performed on him immediately. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain is currently admitted in the ICU and the hospital’s team of doctors are keeping his health under strict observation.
Bollywood celebs like Riteish Deshmukh, Angad Bedi and others wished the legendary cricketer speedy recovery. Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Saina Nehwal, Anil Kumble, Irfan Pathan and other notable sportspersons also prayed for his health. Former India cricketer Madan Lal, part of Dev’s 1983 World Cup-winning side, informed about his captain’s successful surgery and that he will be discharged in a couple of days. A biopic on Kapil titled ’83 is awaiting release. Ranveer Singh is playing the role of the legendary cricketer. Deepika Padukone will essay the role of his wife Romi Dev in the film. The film has been directed by Kabir Khan and will soon release in theatres once the COVID-19 crisis abates.
