Exclusive: Sushant-Shraddha play IIT toppers in Nitish Tiwari’s student drama

After directing Aamir Khan in Dangal, the path-breaking 2016 biopic of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari is now preparing himself for a student drama with a relevant social message for today’s generation. The director has got an interesting cast in Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Prateik Babbar, Varun Sharma and Tahir Raj Bhasin for this film.

Tentatively titled Chichore, the film is scheduled to roll at the end of this month in Mumbai. However, before it goes on floors, PeepingMoon.com has learned that Sushant plays an IIT topper named Anirudh who falls in love with Shraddha’s character who is also an IIT topper. Varun plays Saxa, Sushant’s best friend from Punjab, while Prateik Babbar is said to be the baddie of this student story.

The film is set in IIT Bombay of 1992 and shows a student’s college journey with its heartbreaks, friendships and success. Another interesting update is that Sushant and Shraddha will be seen as parents in one sequence of the film. A source said, “The story starts from the present year in which Sushant and Shraddha have a son who is trying to get admission into IIT Mumbai as his parents were from there. But he fails to crack the Common Entrance Test and tries to commit suicide in despair. To motivate their son, Sushant and Shraddha recall old memories which are shown to the audience as a flashback of the 90s. The story is riveting and keeps moving back and forth in time.”

Sushant, Shraddha, Prateik and the others have already started preparing for their roles and workshops are currently happening at IIT itself for this film. The makers are planning to wrap up the shooting by February-March next year. Interestingly, Nitesh himself passed out of IIT Bombay in 1996 with a degree in Metallurgy and Material Science Engineering. In May, he had announced his next film would release in August 2019 and would be made with Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios. “This is a story I am excited to tell,” Nitesh tweeted. Trade sources are guessing it’s Chichore that the director teased his fans about.
