Rajinikanth's tweet supporting PM Narendra Modi's 'Janta Curfew' deleted for spreading wrong information

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in a special message for the citizens on March 19, called for Janta Curfew today (March 22) to fight against the deadly and rapidly spreading Coronavirus. Coronavirus aka COVID-19 that came into knowledge after it impacted China and its neighbouring countries, has been titled as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. With India also affected, the Government requested people to stay at home safe as the next 10-15 days are extremely crucial. Soon after Mr. Modi announced Janta Curfew, Bollywood celebrities extended their support to him and the initiative. From Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif to many others, the curfew is taken seriously by all. Joining the bandwagon in applauding Mr. Modi's decision, Rajinikanth put forth his opinion on Twitter.

However, little did Thalaiva know that it could land him in trouble. Well, soon after Rajinikanth's tweet went viral, medical experts claimed that his statements in the post were factually incorrect and assumed that they were borrowed from rumours that are spreading all over. A doctor named Dr. S Senthil Kumar tweeted to Rajinikanth and pointed out the mistakes and wrote, "@Rajinikanth sir, A mere 14 hour people's curfew cannot break the transmission chain of a virus. Please be practical. And don't get advise from people who can't prove things with sufficient scientific data to substantiate your theory."

Apart from medical professionals, people who spotted incorrect statements too, congratulated Twitter and admired the team for taking down the statement which was in the form of a video. One of the users said, "Thank you, Twitter, for acting in time, for once, *at least*. @Rajinikanth was using unverified, unsubstantiated nonsense to make his well-intentioned request that would give false hope to people that the virus would be dead by Sunday evening."

Moments after the tweet was deleted, the social media platform was left divided as fans of the veteran actor supported him while others slammed him for giving out wrong information. Hashtags like Shame On Twitter India and Fake News Rajini took over the trending slot.
