Anurag Basu and Pankaj Tripathi roll the dice and play ‘Ludo’ sharing anecdotes from their film

Anurag Basu and Pankaj Tripathi are looking forward to the release of their upcoming film Ludo that is an anthology of four short films spun together with the latter as the narrator or ‘sutradhar’. In an exclusive interview with PeepingMoon.com, the director-actor duo spoke about the film at length and how Pankaj’s character enters every story as the common link.

Anurag and Pankaj spoke about how the game of Ludo is used as a motif in the film visually with the four stories bearing the four colours of the game. Anurag said that in Abhishek’s story there is a lot of anger and passion in it hence it is red, while Aditya Roy Kapur’s and Sanya Malhotra’s love story is sweet hence it is yellow, whereas Rajkummar’s and Fatima Sana Shaikh’s is green and Rohit Saraf and Pearle Maaney have blue as the backdrop.

Talking about working with Anurag and his character in Ludo, Pankaj said, “I always wanted to work with Dada. He was one of the directors on my list so when he approached me I immediately said yes. Dada ne Sattu chaan ke diya hai, main sirf khaya hoon (Dada sifted Sattu for me, I just had to eat it).”

On the other hand, Anurag said that casting an ensemble cast was a herculean task. He said, “When casting was happening I wasn't sure how 10-12 leading faces will come together, but all fell into place,” whereas, Pankaj said that he works honestly and only for the camera above his head (the almighty). He further said that acting is not wrestling it’s a co-creative process with the director that percolates on screen. Ludo releases on Netflix on November 12, 2020.
