Abhishek Banerjee is a person with multiple talents. Not just an actor, Abhishek is also a casting director who has introduced many talents to the industry. After catapulting to fame with Stree in which he played the role of Jaana, the actor hit the ball out of the park by playing Hathoda Tyagi in this year's popular web series Paatal Lok. As we are bidding adieu to 2020 in a few hours, PeepingMoon got in touch with Abhishek to know what are his takeaways from the year.
Calling 2020 a year of artists due to the digital boom, Abhishek shared, "Many will come to you and say industry main aise karna padta hai, waise karna padta hai. Kuch nahi karna padta, bas acha kaam karna padta hai aur mehnat karni padti hai. 2020 has gifted artists with a new medium - OTT, where people can work together and evolve together."
Talking about the change in cinema, Abhishek agreed that people are now more interested in watching new faces over celebrated actors. Citing examples of Divyenndu (Mirzapur) and Siddhant Chaturvedi (Inside Edge and Gully Boy), he said, "Celebrated actors were sitting home. They were not getting the kind if parts they had aptitude for."
He further added, "Agar film industry main aap chahte ho more actors and people who can be profitable to the industry, then understand the craft and give opportunities to 'actors'. Only then, through the years they will become another Jaideep Ahlawat or Pratik Gandhi. They have been around for decades, it's only now you all are recognising them! And that job I am gonna do, as a casting director, keep my eyes open."
Abhishek shed light on how heroes are worshipped in films and not those who actually live the characters. Saying that directors and writers are the ones who need to be worshipped, Abhishek shared, "We are still in Raja Pratha, Hero worship. Actors ko actors ki tarah deal karna chahiye. We are not heroes - just actors. Hero worship sirf uska hona chahiye jo apko real zindagi main prabhavit kare. Aur filmon main hero-worship director and writer ki honi chahiye."
