It’s ‘Tamma’ Time: Madhuri, Varun get sassy on the dance floor!

This February, we saw Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan recreate the magic of 1990’s, 'Tamma Tamma…' from the film Thanedar. That number had been dubbed probably the last chartbuster of music composer Bappi Lahiri's disco era. Shashank Khaitan's rom-com Badrinath Ki Dulhania created a past meets future scenario, as this iconic number was blended with EDM to recreate the song.

The original song had seen the two screen sensations, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt burning up the floor with their quirky dance moves. It was a song that was more than six-and-a-half minutes long, with its tricky Michael Jackson-style steps choreographed by the ace, Saroj Khan. In Feb, we saw Bhatt and Dhawan also catch up with Madhuri for a few tips on getting the moves right.

And now, we see Mads rocking those moves again, with Varun Dhawan, no less! The two have performed to this popular number at the Star Screen Awards held last week and, from the little that we see of them now, they look sensational!

Something about this song has made it much-talked-about over the years. During the time his film Bhoomi was being promoted, Sanjay Dutt had revealed on the sets of the talent show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs’ that he had rehearsed the ‘Tamma Tamma’ dance routine for 16 long days before filming because he felt even slightly prepared to face the cameras. Given his lack of dancing skills – “I dance like a crow” - he was “nervous” about having to keep up with Madhuri Dixit, he revealed.

Story has it that the song required 48 takes before it could be canned, and Javed Jaaferi had also stepped in for Dutt to perform the more intricate steps.

On stage now, Mads proves she still has the moves!
