Bigg Boss OTT: Shamita Shetty has an emotional breakdown, talks to host Karan Johar about 'living under her sister Shilpa Shetty's shadow'

The first Sunday Ka Vaar of Bigg Boss OTT was memorable for many reasons. Host Karan Johar, for the first time, grilled contestants for their behaviour in the first week of the show. Karan, showcasing his fierce side, schooled the inmates and put forth questions that were asked by the audience. Divya Agarwal was slammed for her overall conduct in the first week. Shamita Shetty received praise for playing the right game and for showing who the real Shamita is.

Karan, who showered love on Shamita, went on to ask whether she is carrying some kind of baggage with her inside the house as she appears to feel lonely. The actress got emotional and broke down. She agreed that she is carrying emotional baggage and said people just know her as 'Shilpa Shetty's sister' and not who 'Shamita' is. She further said that living under that shadow for 20-21 years in the film industry hasn't been easy.

Shamita added that though she is lucky to be under a very ‘protective shadow’, she wants to create her own identity. As Shamita tried to hold her tears back, she said that after struggling for years, she is now comfortable in her skin and hopes that the audience will get to see her real side.

In 2019, Shamita reacted to comments that Shilpa and her husband Raj Kundra were taking care of her financially. She clarified that she is financially independent and can take care of herself. "I’m lucky to be compared to someone who is respected for what she does and for the person she is. I am proud of that. Sometimes, there are comments on social media about how I’m being taken care of by my sister and brother-in-law, and how I have such an easy life. Let me make it clear that I take care of myself," she told.
