Avengers: Infinity War dislodges Baahubali 2, Padmaavat to become highest opener

Superhero biggie Avengers: Infinity War is having itself the biggest, fattest run at the Indian box office. Within just three days of its release, collections of the film have crossed Rs.120 crore at the Indian turnstiles. Sunday’s collections were a lip-smacking Rs.41.67 crore, propelling the gross box office collection (GBOC) to Rs.120.90 crore.

This top-grossing film has been causing considerable ripples with audiences thronging packed theatres, making it the biggest opening of 2018. Despite the popularity of the series, no trade pundit could quite predict that the film, containing all the superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, would have higher occupancy rates than even Baahubali – The Conclusion, whose BO records had shattered all the existing collection records before.
Avengers’s performance so far has beaten even that of the thumping hit, Padmaavat. While the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial had garnered Rs.83 crore, including paid previews on Thursday night, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film has zoomed past.

Released in English and other dubbed regional languages, the amazing performance of the film in India, is backed by an equally phenomenal success in the west. It has broken the record for highest North American opening weekend, as it garnered $250 million at US and Canadian box offices. Its figures have outshone those of The Force Awakens, the seventh film in the Star Wars space saga, which had touched $248 million in its opening weekend in 2015.

Avengers: Infinity War, directed by Russo brothers, brings together a stellar star cast of Hollywood A-listers including Robert Downey Jr, Josh Brolin, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Don Cheadle, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tom Hiddleston.

And the fun has just begun…!
