Box Office: Avengers: Infinity War breaks records, Varun's October fares decently

Nobody thought Iron Man and gang would take over so thoroughly! Avengers: Infinity War not just raked in an all-time high of Rs.156.64 crore at the Indian box office, it has also set 15 new records in its first week. All this after releasing in only 2000 screens in the country!

The film has displaced Padmaavat to recorded occupancy of 90% to 100% on the first day, setting a new record in this category. It also recorded an opening occupancy of above 60 percent in India, the highest for a Hollywood film here. With an opening collection of Rs.31.30 crore, it beat Baaghi 2 at Rs.25.10 crore, becoming the highest box office opener of 2018 in India. Additionally, it beat Furious 7’s record of Rs.12.30 crore to become the highest opening day grosser for a Hollywood film in India.

Of course, it also became the highest first day grossing Marvel film in India, beating Avengers: Age of Ultron which raked in Rs.10.98 crore. Besides becoming the 10th all-time highest box office opener in India, and pulling in the highest Saturday collection for 2018, it garnered the highest opening weekend for a Hollywood film in India. However, in the news that should make team Padmaavat smile, it failed to beat the Sanjay Bhansali directorial’s opening weekend collection of Rs.114 crore. It has to be content with second place in this regard.

The multi-starrer superhero flick is the highest first weekend grosser for a Marvel film in India, and also the first Hollywood film to collect Rs.20 crore at the Indian box office for five consecutive days. The fastest Hollywood film to collect Rs.150 crore in India, it is the highest opening week grosser for a Hollywood film in India, and the second highest opening week grosser of 2018 in India. All this in week one… fasten your seatbelts because there’s more ground to be won!

Meanwhile, week 3 of the Varun Dhawan starrer October has seen the film rake in a total of Rs.45.36 crore. After collecting Rs.30.24 crore in week one, followed by Rs.12.15 crore in week two, the Shoojit Sircar directorial manged Rs.2.97 crore in week three. Unfortunately, not all beautiful love stories find unalloyed box office success…
