It’s not wrong to say that 2018 is Bollywood's one of the most exciting and successful year. From sleeper hits to blockbusters, Bollywood is witnessing a great time at the box office. The latest surprise in the club is Dhadak starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter which released on July 20.
Dhadak is the official adaption of Nagraj Manjule’s Sairat, directed by Shashank Khaitan under the home banner of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Karan's banner has proved to be a successful launch pad for many new faces and Dhadak is no different. He announced the film last year with late Sridevi’s elder daughter Janhvi and Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan and the buzz around them has been going on since then.

Dhadak which released just yesterday has already broken box office records. Its first-day collection has been reported to be a smashing Rs. 8.71 Cr. With this, the film has set a new record as the “Highest Opening Newcomer Film”. With two new faces, these unexpected numbers come as a sweet surprise.
Dhadak has managed to break yet another record. Dharma’s Student of the Year starring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra released in 2012 made roughly Rs. 8 Cr. on its first day. Janhvi and Ishaan have swept them off the floor too. Overwhelmed by the unexpected response, producer Karan Johar tweeted today, “Glad to have our own record broken previously held by SOTY!! Thank you to all the beating hearts for giving this beating heart so much love!!!”

Dhadak is in cinemas with Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor which has turned out to be a blockbuster. Sanju has been running for four weeks and already the fourth highest grossing film in Bollywood. Diljit Dosanjh starrer Soorma that released last week has shown steady performance at the box office so far. Now, with Dhadak smashing the records, it will be interesting to see what lies ahead for it.
