It’s been two days since Rajkummar Rao’s and Shraddha Kapoor’s new film Stree released and the film is performing pretty well at the box office. Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree is a horror comedy and its innovative plot line is what has impressed audiences as well as critics.
On its second day, Stree earned Rs 10.87 crore while its opening day collections amounted to Rs 6.82 crore. Stree’s total earnings, hence, stand at Rs 17.69 crore. The film has garnered critical acclaim and a significant word of mouth. With the kind of response Stree has been receiving, it is expected to witness a great footfall on Sunday.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, on Twitter, also said that “low costs and high theatrical returns” has made Stree a big success. Based on a female ghost who exists in Chanderi town, Stree co-stars Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana and Abhishek Banerjee.
In his review for PeepingMoon, film critic Lokesh Dharmani praised the brilliant show put up by the supporting cast in Stree.
“The actors lend hilarity to the script with their poker-faced humor. Pankaj Tripathi as the know-all owner of a bookstore is straight-faced funny. It is Aparshakti Khurana (Bittu) and Abhishek Banerjee (Jana) who steal the show. Aparshakti not only rocks the small town accent but also looks convincingly scared. His comic timing and his dialogue delivery shows he is at par with Rajkummar or even better. Abhishek as a nerdy friend looks like he belongs to Chander, the town where the film is set in,” Lokesh Dharmani said in his review.
Stree released on August 31 and clashed with Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se at the box office. Directed by Navaniat Singh, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se stars Dharmendra and his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol in the principal roles.
