Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh are going to unleash their power at the box office with their film Gully Boy which released today and has taken a great start at the theatres. The audience interest was already high with the film’s trailer and rap songs being the talk of the town but now looks like that the film will live up to the expectations and hype as well. According to a trade website, Gully Boy has taken a blockbuster start in cities like Mumbai and Pune which can compare with the biggest of films.
The opening of the film was far greater than Padmaavat and Simmba in Mumbai/Thane and Pune which is probably because of the local feel of the film. The occupancy rate was around 40-45 percent in the morning shows. The film was released on a Thursday because of Valentine’s Day which is not an official holiday but collections do get a boost with couples venturing out to theatres to celebrate.

Directed by Zoya Akhtar the film is expected to rake in around Rs 20 crore on its opening day. The reviews of the film are highly positive and the word-of-mouth from the audience will work in favour of the film too. The trade website also reported that the film is economically safe as most of its cost will be recovered from digital, satellite and music rights but the theatrical run is important for the people involved to benefit.
However, the film is going to be about the five big metros especially Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore with multiplexes giving the major box office collections as the opening at the mass circuit is pretty low. All in all, Gully Boy is a winner and might hit a century over its 4-day weekend itself.
