Box Office: Total Dhamaal has a great opening; Gully Boy manages to hold the fort

Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit starrer Total Dhamaal has opened on a good note. It has got the year’s biggest opening, discounting Gully Boy which was Valentine’s Day release. The film has scored big in mass markets like Rajasthan, CI, CP Berar, Nizam / Andhra, Bihar and Gujarat. The film that released on Friday has fetched Rs 16.50 crore on its opening day. The film has also become Ajay’s best non-holiday release beating Bol Bachchan by a considerable margin.

Total Dhamaal is directed by Indra Kumar and is the third instalment in the Dhamaal film series. It also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Javed Jaffrey, Arshad Warsi, Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Lever and Boman Irani. The film which has released during peak exam season with no holiday in the vicinity has managed to strike gold at the box office and is poised to do a good business in the coming days as well.

On the other hand, Ranveer Singh’s and Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy is minting money at the box office. The film directed by Zoya Akhtar has managed to wow the metro audience. The film kept its hold at the box office on the eighth day of its release and managed to collect Rs 3.75 crore nett. The film’s collections are coming from metro cities with Pune leading the way. Gully Boy is not doing great in mass markets which is as expected because of its plot.

The film also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Kalki Koechlin and is inspired by the lives of Indian rappers Divine and Naezy. It has garnered a total of Rs 104.20 crore till date.
