Box Office: Amitabh Bachchan’s Badla fares well on first day; Captain Marvel records massive opening

It has been a fantastic Friday for Amitabh Bachchan’s Badla and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel at the box office as both films fared well and impressed audiences. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures of Badla, starring Big B and Taapsee Pannu, in the lead roles, and said that the film has gone from “strength to strength” and picked up in the afternoon and subsequently in the evening at theatres in metro cities. Badla earned Rs 5.94 crore on the first day of its release.

In his tweet, Taran also mentioned that Badla is expected to witness “substantial growth” in its collections through “strong word of mouth”.

Badla, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, opened to positive reviews on March 8. The film also stars Manav Kaul and Amrita Singh and is an official remake of the Spanish film The Invisible Guest.

Captain Marvel, meanwhile, recorded the second highest opening ever on March 8 for a Hollywood release as it collected around Rs 13 crore nett, as per a report in Box Office India. Very few Hollywood films have crossed the Rs 10 crore mark on the first day in India, the report states. Captain Marvel released in 1900 screens and yet, managed to earn a respectable figure on the first day of its release. The film is expected to fare well over the weekend.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn and Djimon Hounsou apart from Brie Larson.

In the meantime, Captain Marvel has “slightly affected” the business of Luka Chhupi, starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles. Luka Chhupi has collected Rs 56.74 crore so far and is expected to gather speed.
