Karan Johar’s ambitious drama Kalank released on Wednesday and has emerged as the biggest opener of 2019 as the Abhishek Varman-directed film has earned Rs 21.60 crore on the opening day. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures saying that the hype is major while the film also benefitted from the fact that it released on a partial holiday, Mahavir Jayanti. Moreover, the film released across 4000 screens.

Kalank, in fact, has also recorded the top opening day collection in 2019 and is also the “biggest opener” of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt so far. So far Akshay Kumar’s Kesari earned Rs 21.06 crore, GullyBoy - Rs 19.40 crore and Total Dhamaal – Rs 16.50 crore. Kalank topped it all as it recorded Rs 21.60 crore on the first day of its release.

Directed by Abhishek Varman, Kalank stars Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit in the pivotal roles. The film has been co-produced by Karan Johar under Dharma Productions.
