Karan Johar’s period drama Kalank, featuring an ensemble cast including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit, released on Wednesday. The Abhishek Varman directorial witnessed a slight drop on day 2 after a mid week holiday for Mahavir Jayanti on day 1 and scored a double digit number on with Rs 11.45 crore, taking the total collections of two day to Rs 33.05 crore at the box-office. Kalank is expected to grow with an extended weekend and the big holiday of Good Friday and score a good weekend number.
Interestingly, Kalank also recorded the top opening day collection in 2019 and is also the “biggest opener” of Varun and Alia so far. So far Akshay Kumar’s Kesari earned Rs 21.06 crore, GullyBoy - Rs 19.40 crore and Total Dhamaal – Rs 16.50 crore. Kalank topped it all as it recorded Rs 21.60 crore on the first day of its release.
With the grandeur of a magnum opus, Dharma Productions, Abhishek and Karan have given us the movie of the year so far. Set in the 1940s, Kalank features a "romance between a young daredevil and a beautiful woman in 1945 India.”
