Box Office: 'Tanhaji: The Sung Warrior' crosses Rs 50 crore mark; 'Chhapaak' trends well; 'Good Newwz' to soon join Rs 200 crore club

Actor-producer Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is a biographical period action drama in 3D, starring him, Saif Ali Khan, Kajol and Sharad Kelkar. The film is directed by Om Raut. Set in the 17th century, it is based on the life of Tanaji Malusare, who was a subedar in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of the Maratha Empire.

The film opened to a box office collection of Rs 15.10 crore and now in its first weekend itself, it has managed to cross Rs 60 crore mark. Minting Rs 26.08 crore on Sunday, the total collections of the film now stand at Rs 61.75 crore.

On the other hand, Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak opened on January 10 as well. The film is trending decently and its first weekend collections are now at Rs 19.02 crore. Taran tweeted, "#Chhapaak sees day-wise growth, but the weekend trending is good, not great... Collects well at premium multiplexes of urban sectors mainly... Needs to trend well on weekdays for a healthy Week 1 total... Fri 4.77 cr, Sat 6.90 cr, Sun 7.35 cr. Total: 19.02 cr. #India biz."

Last but not the least, Good Newwz starring Akshay Kumar, Diljit Dosanjh, Kiara Advani and Kareena Kapoor Khan is raking in moolah at the box office. The film is now inching closer to Rs 200 crore mark as it has collected Rs 190.09 crore so far. Directed by Raj Mehta, the film released on December 27.
