Box Office: Varun-Shraddha starrer 'Street Dancer 3D' beats Saif Ali Khan's 'Jawaani Jaaneman'; Ajay Devgn's 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior' continues to break records

Box-office battles normally happen between films released on the same day, but there seems to be an exception right now. Last week's big 'desi' release -- the Saif-Ali Khan starrer Jawaani Jaaneman -- is facing real opposition from Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which released on January 10.

Jawaani Jaaneman, co-starring Tabu and Alaya F, opened to Rs 3.24 crore on its first day. On its first Tuesday, the film minted Rs 1.94 crore, taking the total box office collections to Rs 16.80 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh dubbed the box office performance the film, directed by Nitin Kakkar, as 'strong' in his tweet, "#JawaaniJaaneman stays strong on Day 5... Steady at national multiplexes [especially North]... Eyes 20 cr+ total in *Week 1*... Fri 3.24 cr, Sat 4.55 cr, Sun 5.04 cr, Mon 2.03 cr, Tue 1.94 cr. Total: 16.80 cr. #India biz."

Meanwhile, director Om Raut's and Ajay Devgn's film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which also stars Saif, continues to dominate the box office. On its day 26, the film collected Rs 2.05 crore and now the total domestic box office numbers stand at Rs 255.77 crore. According to trade sources, Tanhaji has remained steady ever since it opened on January 10 alongside the Deepika Padukone-starrer Chhapaak. What's more? The film's collections continue to be the best in Maharashtra, with the state contributing nearly 60 per cent of the film's overall collection.

Last but not the least, Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Street Dancer 3D has remained steady at the box office and the Remo D'Souza directed dance film managed to collect just Rs 1.35 crore on Tuesday. The film's box office collection now stands at Rs 68.96 crore.

It released on January 24 and has managed to stay second to Tanhaji with films like Panga, Jawaani Jaaneman, Himesh Reshammiya's Happy Hardy And Heer and the Malala Yousafzai biopic Gul Makai in the theatres.
