Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta’s Veer Zaara hits Rs 100 crore worldwide celebrating 20 years with re-release

Bollywood is currently riding on the re-releases despite new movies making it to theaters. However, moviegoers are highly attracted to reruns of iconic movies. While several movies like Rockstar, Laila Majnu, Tumbbad, and more re-release Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta’s romance musical Veer Zaara also returned to theaters. Yash Chopra’s 2004 film continues its legacy crossing Rs 100 crore at the worldwide box office after re-release.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Veer Zaara reopened on September 13 with a collection of Rs 20 lakh. The love saga witnessed growth on Saturday and Sunday with a business of Rs 32 lakh and 38 lakh respectively. The movie collected Rs 20 lakh on Monday, 18 lakh on Tuesday, 15 lakh on Wednesday, and 14 lakh on Thursday. This makes a total domestic collection of Rs 1.57 crore over a week of re-release. Overseas it earned Rs 0.23 crore and the September 2024 re-release box office stands at Rs 1.80 crore. 

Earlier this year in February, the film was once again re-released and earned Rs 0.30 crore. From 2005 till 2023 the movie managed to collect Rs 2.50 crore. The original box office collection of Veer Zaara was Rs 98 crore when it was released in 2004. It collected Rs 61 crore in India and Rs 37 crore internationally making a total of Rs 98 crore globally. Adding the collection of original releases, and all the re-releases the film now stands at a total of rs 102.60 crore at the worldwide box office. 

Veer Zaara is a love saga starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta. The film is a cross-border love story revolving around an Indian soldier and a Pakistani woman who fall in love but are separated after the hero is wrongly put behind bars. Directed by Yash Chopra, the film has completed 20 years in Indian cinema.
