On July 6, 2018, PeepingMoon.com was the first to inform you that filmmaker Karan Johar's next will not be a mushy romantic, family saga or a college-centric drama; the film will have a period Mughal theme, which is reportedly KJo’s dream, and will have an unprecedented budget and the biggest star cast of all time.
Followed this, rumour mill was abuzz as to who will make the cut for KJo's dream project. Putting the rumours to rest, KJo today announced probably the biggest ensemble cast in the current time of Indian cinema, which is star-studded enough to dazzle the daylights out of anyone! Karan gave away the names and film's details in a series of tweets.
After the magnificent performances in Bajirao Mastani and the recently successful Padmaavat, Ranveer Singh will be working with KJo for the first time in Takht, wherein Kareena Kapoor will be playing the second-most powerful role in the project, followed by the immensely talented and Johar's protegee, Alia Bhatt. Handpicking Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar for other roles, along with debutante Janhvi Kapoor and her uncle Anil Kapoor, Karan just had a casting coup of sorts.
In Karan's own words, TAKHT is "An incredible story embedded in history... An epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne... A story of a family, of ambition, of greed, of betrayal, of love & of succession... TAKHT is about WAR for LOVE...."
Takht will release in 2020 and the screenplay is penned by Sumit Roy. Check out the grand announcement!
