After first hearing about Partners Trouble Hogayi Double, I was fairly skeptical about yet another attempt on SAB TV’s part to try to attempt another FIR. However, minutes after the new show started, I was able to find an affection for this one that I haven't had for a comedy show since SARABHAI V/S SARABHAI.
Anchored in large part by Johnny Lever’s iconic sense of humor, it also features the hilarious Kiku Sharada & the dead-pan humor of Vipul Roy is charismatic. Personally, I felt it to be one of the strongest comedies I had seen in a while.
They introduce the audience to the characters in a way that doesn't seems clumsy. PARTNERS accomplishes these crucial initial first impressions by not overstating the core personalities of the characters. Half way in, we quickly begin to experience the average day in a Police Station and learn of the quirky interactions that occur between characters alongside supporting cast like Inspector Bose, as they do leave something to be desired in terms of having something to offer to the show, but the groundwork is solid.
The expected detective work is certainly there, but the main focus is the ludicrous and off-beat styles of the detectives. One of the best things I like about this show, thus far, is the fact that the jokes are random and humorous than in-your-face kinds.
The only problem is I don not see this as a show that will appeal to mass audiences, simply because it is more quirky and witty, though not necessarily requiring its viewers to think more about the jokes. Also its very upmarket in its production, cast, direction and camera work. It doesn’t look like the regular 'budgeted' SAB TV shows. Obviously not everyone will appreciate it, but I strongly encourage those who are interested in watching genuinely a comedy show with some brains, to watch a couple of episodes before making a full opinion.
In the end, PARTNERS Trouble Hogayi Double is a satire on police, and is a delightful watch.
