Comedy queen Bharti Singh turns a year older today. The stand-up comedian who makes everyone laugh with her jokes and antics has seen some amazing highs and lows in her life, but that hasn’t deterred her from achieving the topmost position in the entertainment industry. Bharti is that rare individual who is loved not only by the audience but also by her peers, colleagues and other Bollywood celebrities.
Bharti got married to writer Haarsh Limbachiyaa in a ceremony last year in Goa.
On her birthday today here’s a look at some of the lesser-known facts from her remarkable life.

Her mother contemplated aborting her
Bharti was born into a very poor family. She is the youngest and when her mother was pregnant with her she had resorted to aborting her. Bharti’s mother tried various means of abortion but it didn’t happen. However, Bharti’s mother never let her feel like an unwanted child once she was born.
Life is a lesson
Bharti’s father passed away when she was only two-years-old and her mother was only 22. Her mother had to feed three hungry kids at home and used to work in a factory to make ends meet. She had previously said, “My mother used to work in a factory, and she used to complete the pending work at home. I have grown up listening to the irritating sounds of a sewing machine day in and day out. It still haunts me, whenever I hear it on the roadside.”
First Audition
Life at home was so dreary that Bharti used to go to NCC camps to stay away from home. She used to go for auditions to earn money. Comedian Sudesh Lahiri was the one who offered her first role in a play after spotting her in a park playing. Then, Rajiv Thakur offered her another role.
The Great Indian Laughter Challenge
Kapil Sharma motivated Bharti to go for an audition for The Great Indian Laughter Challenge which changed her life. She got recognition and name for herself through the program which later opened many avenues from her.
Mum's is the word
Bharti is not insecure about her weight or her money but the fact that she might lose her mother someday. She dreads the day when her mother won’t be alive and says that she would want to go before her.
Marriage with Haarsh
Bharti says that her marriage with Haarsh was sponsored by the couple and they paid everything 50-50. Apparently, Haarsh wanted a low-key wedding but Bharti being a Punjabi at heart wanted a grand celebration for which the couple paid themselves.
