Appearing on Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee With Karan has proved very expensive for cricketer Hardik Pandya. His sexist and crass remarks on the show have landed him in loads of trouble. After being asked to give an explanation for his remarks by the BCCI in a show cause notice, he has been suspended from the Ind-Aus ODI series and has been ordered to return home from Australia. Now, fresh troubles have alighted on the cricketer’s head as he has lost out on a plump endorsement deal.
Hardik lost his endorsement deal with Gillette following his sexist remarks on the Koffee With Karan show. The cricketers are facing ire from all quarters including the BCCI and their seniors who feel that they have demeaned the gentleman’s game. Gillette is the first company to end their association with the flamboyant all-rounder. Hardik has apologized for his comments but he has started seeing the repercussions of his remarks made on the show. Hardik used to endorse Gilette's Mach3 Start razor.
A company spokesperson told a leading daily, “Hardik Pandya's recent comments do not reflect the values of Gillette. We have suspended our association with Hardik until we decide on a further course of action." The episode has been taken down from the online streaming platform Hotstar. Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli had also expressed his displeasure at the crass remarks and distanced himself and the team from the comments.
