Abhishek Bachchan and his sister Shweta Bachchan Nanda made an appearance on the sixth season of Karan Johar's celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan and during the episode, the actor spoke at length about his two-year sabbatical. After 2016's Housefull 3, Abhishek made a comeback with Anurag Kashyap's Manmarziyaan in 2018.
Discussing his sabbatical with Karan, Abhishek said that since the past few years, he has been a part of big-budget films and multistarrers but ended up "standing behind somebody else" in the film that he clearly isn't okay with.

"I was part of huge films. Huge budgets. Huge stars. Huge collections. Everything was hunky dory. I had no pressure on me because I was standing by the side or behind somebody else who was shouldering all the pressure. I was making lots of money. Those films were making lots of money and it became very easy. I didn't come into the film industry, if I may say so, with all due respect, to stand behind anyone," Abhishek said on KWK 6.
Asked whether it is a "huge problem standing behind a bigger star, Abhishek said that with due respect to his co-stars, it is, indeed. Considering the fact that he has occupied the spotlight in films for the longest period of time, Abhishek isn't okay with settling in otherwise.

"It is a huge problem. It was so weird, and I don't have any problem in saying this with humility and respect with all my co-stars because I loved making those films and genuinely enjoyed them. But, it's heartbreaking for any actor who has been centre-stage, in the middle of the shot...(get sidelined). It's very difficult to digest. That hurt and humiliation are important. The industry is a brutal place," Abhishek added.
Abhishek and Shweta Bachchan are veteran actors Amitabh's and Jaya Bachchan's children.
