International Women's Day: From Tinaa Dattaa, Adaa Khan to Jasmin Bhasin, our television actresses talk about their role models

On the occasion of International Women's Day, while everyone is celebrating womanhood, how can our telly celebrities be left behind. Telly divas Adaa Khan, Jasmin Bhasin, Ridheema Tiwari, Smiriti Kalra, and Tinaa Dattaa revealed the women behind their success and whom they look up to.

Adaa said her role model is her mother Parvin Khan. She believes her mother has distilled excellent values. For the unversed, Adaa's mother passed away in 2013. "She is not in this world anymore but her blessings are with me all the time. It is because of my mother that I became very independent as a person and I can fight all my battles. As far as advice is concerned to young women, it is to love and respect yourself first and never compromise on your values and emotions," the Amrit Manthan actress said.

Jasmin said that she admires Jhansi ki Rani. "She has been an inspiration to not only me but all the women in India. She stood for her rights and lived fearlessly. My advice to young women is to follow your heart and dreams, be independent financially and emotionally and live life with a positive attitude," Jasmin added.

Ridheema finds Rosario Dawson to be her role model.

She said, "I love Rosario Dawson, as she’s determined and unique. And like me, she also speaks her mind. Most of all, I love that she worked hard for everything she has today.  I appreciate her candour and passion for human rights, women of colour, and female inequality."

Smriti said her role model are her parents."Born to Kiran Kalra and guided by my father and guru, Sudhir Kalra, I never had to look beyond for a role model. More than having a professional role model, being an amazing human being like them is what I aspire to be," she added.

Mother Teresa is actress Tinaa's foremost inspiration. "I would like to tell young women that life is precious and they should put their foot down to take a stand whenever needed. One should adjust and balance our career with life but not at the cost of self-respect."
