I should have built a crèche in my office a long time ago: Ekta Kapoor feels it is important for working mothers to be around their babies

Television czarina Ekta Kapoor recently welcomed her son Ravie Kapoor through surrogacy. The producer is the first woman celebrity to take the surrogacy route without being married. During an interview, Ekta spoke about balancing motherhood with her work commitments. Apparently, her son who is all of three-months-old already recognizes faces at her office because she has set up a crèche in her office which she regrets not setting up earlier.

In an interview to a leading daily, Ekta said, “Currently, life is all about spending as much time as possible with my son. These days, I try and leave the office earlier than usual. I bring Ravie to the office frequently and he spends time with my team. I have a huge support system in my mother and my team, so whenever I get busy with meetings, they keep him entertained. He is only three months old, but he has made friends with my colleagues and it may sound unrealistic, but he recognizes people at work. That is one of the reasons I have set up a crèche in my office. Even when my son grows older, the creche will continue, because it is important for working mothers to be around their babies. In fact, I should have built it in my office a long time ago. I regret not having done that earlier.”

Now, isn’t that a credible thing that Ekta has done, even though it is a bit late and she did it when she realized the necessity of a crèche in her office. Yet, it is commendable that she has willed that the crèche will stay even after her son grows up. If only other companies also follow suit and make crèche a compulsory part of their office ergonomics life would be so much simpler for working women and mothers.
