Meet brothers - Harmeet Meet and Manmeet Meet, are still shocked over the passing away of their close friend, actor Kushal Punjabi. The night before Kushal committed suicide on December 26 last year, the brothers were at a party with him and the others. “We never thought it would be our last meeting,” said Manmeet.
“During the party, everything appeared fine. Kushal did not show any signs of detachment and behaved normally. We talked a lot that night and had plans to meet again soon,” he added.
Recalling Kushal as a confident and happy-go-lucky guy, Harmeet said, “This incident points to the fact that even those who look happy and cheerful could be under stress. Depression is creeping into modern lives and my take is that the mobile culture is taking a toll on our mental stability.”
Shaken from this episode, Manmeet, who is a father to a 12-year-old daughter, is now planning to sensitize people about changing the academic system. He talks regularly to his daughter to gauge her stress levels. “The first half an hour of school should be about stress-busting. History is important, but present ka kya? Rather than focussing only on academic learning, kids should be taught real-life values, too. Spiritual teaching is also important,” he said.
