Dipika Chikhlia is renowned for her role as Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic Ramayan TV show. In a recent interview, Dipika Chikhlia revealed that she truly wished to play rape victim Nirbhaya's mother, Asha Devi, on the big screen. According to Dipika Chikhlia, playing Asha Devi would help her inspire all the women in India to fight injustice.
“I still get shivers down my spine when I think of the Nirbhaya incident. It took her seven years to get the justice, and in these seven years, her mother Asha Devi stood like a rock for her daughter,” Dipika said.
She further added, “Nirbhaya’s case went for many years and a movie based on it will bring awareness to people in general and women in particular. Today, women in the village hesitate to lodge a complaint in the police station, but with Nirbhaya and her mother’s story, they will get strength to stand for themselves”.
"If ever a film will be made on Nirbhaya's life for the benefit of society, country and women, then I would definitely like to play Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi. I have to work in similar films whose characters are as strong and courageous as Asha Devi in real life," added Dipika.
For the unversed, Dipika recently made a comeback in Bollywood with Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Bala.
