Draupadi vastra-haran episode in B R Chopra’s 'Mahabharat' reminds actress Roopa Ganguly of a real-life mob attack on her

After Doordarshan announced that its popular eighties epic Ramayan would be re-aired, the audience started demanding for other popular old television shows of that era be re-telecast. Taking note of such public demand, the government re-telecast body then decided to telecast Mahabharat, and other shows like Byomkesh Bakshi and the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Circus.

Just like Ramayan, B R Chopra’s Mahabharat too is being loved by the audience again and recently, when Draupadi vastra-haran episode aired, people couldn’t stop praising Roopa Ganguly for her acting on the show. Netizens have been hailing her performance as Draupadi and as per reports, when Roopa shot the scene, she was inconsolable even after the scene ended. Now with the episode re-airing, Roopa was reminded of another traumatic real-life incident from 2016, when she was brutally attacked by a mob in West Bengal on her way back to Kolkata from Ishwaripur village near Kakdwip. The incident not only triggered horrifying memories for her but was also reminded how she suffered from two brain hemorrhages post that.

Gaadi tod-fod kiye, do brain haemorrhage jhelne pade. Bas, main mar nahi gayi. Rally driver hoon, nikal aa gayi (sic).” she tweeted after the Draupadi vastra-haran episode aired on screen again.
