The alarming spread of the deadly Coronavirus has brought the whole world to a standstill. As the battle against the novel COVID-19 continues, India has been put under a complete lockdown. Termed as the darkest period of all times, 2020 started off on an unlikely note. Amid a grim situation, Doordarshan flagged off the re-run of iconic shows that aired in the 80s and 90s. Amongst several shows was the evergreen Ramayan. Starring Arun Govil, Dipika Chikhlia and Sunil Lahri as Ram, Sita and Lakshman, late Dara Singh as Hanuman and Arvind Trivedi as Raavan, the show proved to be a blockbuster even today. However, while Ramayan has received love from the audience in abundance, it came across as shocking when Arun, on Twitter, revealed that he never got any formal award for his performance.
Arun, on Twitter, on Saturday, replied to journalist Raghuvendra Singh's question regarding awards. He said that neither the Central nor State Government of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh (his hometown) felicitated him with awards for the portrayal of Ram in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan.

As soon as the tweet went viral, fans of Ramayan and Arun, Dipika and Sunil put forth their demand for an award. They came out in support of Arun and also stated the importance of an award. Some went on to say that the cast should be honoured with Padma Shri and National Award.
