In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, the nation was sent into shutdown mode. Now, two months into the national lockdown, shoots of new shows and films are yet to resume. Amid this, television channels are re-telecasting daily soaps that were a hit among the audience. One of the shows is ZEE TV's Pavitra Rishta. Starring Ankita Lokhande and Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead, the Ekta Kapoor show was loved by all. Now, as the re-run is keeping fans engaged, Ekta walked down the memory lane recalled how Sushant was roped in for the role of Manav.
Ekta, on her Instagram account, shared a promo of Pavitra Rishta, marking the show's 11th-year anniversary. In the caption, she mentioned that ZEE TV wasn't keen on signing Sushant for the role of Manav. However, Ekta convinced them saying his smile has the power to win a million hearts. Well, indeed, it does! "After being 35 of 50 slots we were out of top 50! This show was a chance @zeetv gave us based on a show #tirumatiselvum ! Wanted to cast a boy as lead who was doing second lead on our other show ! D creative in zee was adamant he dint look d part ! We@convinced them his smile wud win a million hearts.....and it did," Ekta wrote.
In response to this, Sushant thanked Ekta for offering him the role that catapulted him to fame. "And I’m forever grateful to you ma’am," commented Sushant.
Pavitra Rishta aired on June 1, 2009, and enjoyed a successful run till October 25, 2014. The show revolved around Archana and Manav played by Ankita and Sushant respectively. It traced their love story with the backdrop of a traditional Maharashtrian family culture. After Sushant shifted to films, Hiten Tejwani stepped in as Manav. The show also starred Asha Negi, Rithvik Dhanjani among several others.
