TV actor Mohit Sehgal recently posted a group photo with his friends that raised several questions on social distancing on the internet. It featured his group of friends — Karan Wahi, Sanaya Irani, Barun Sobti, Ridhi Dogra, Akshay Dogra, Meiyang Chang, Asha Negi and Naman Shaw — huddled together at a time when social distancing is the norm. The bunch had met up for their common friend, writer Gautam Hegde’s birthday on June 19.
When a leading daily got in touch with the actor, he said, “All of us reside in the same society and no outsider was invited. Gautam was extremely careful about having a get-together at his home, as his parents stay with him. We followed all precautionary measures — removed our shoes outside and wore masks all the time, to the extent that we didn’t even eat the cake.”
Soon after the pic was posted, many people pointed out that the actors were not following social distancing. Mohit said, “There is not a single case of infection in our building and we are allowed to go for a walk one wing at a time. Otherwise, we would not have taken that chance.”
Happy #lockdown #birthday my sweet and dearest friend @hegdeg Tere birthday pe kuch to alag hona tha Hope we all followed all ur instructions of loosing the shoes outside, santizing our hands before entering and masks always on But mask ke chakar mein cake to khaya hi nahi never mind ... You have a great day my friend . Hope the coming year is much much much better for you and brings all the happiness to you and you always stay healthy ...love you my friend... always ♥ @sanayairani @karanwahi @uditisinghh @iridhidogra @ashanegi @iakshaydogra @sakshi0801 @meiyangchang @namanshaw #barunsobti #pashmeenmanchanda
Karan Wahi, too, added, “We followed every safety measure that was required. We reside in the same building and were at Gautam’s home only for 12 minutes. Since his parents stay with him, we were extra careful. If there was any risk, I would have been the first person to not step out. I have stayed at home for 100 days. Lockdown rules have been relaxed, and like I said, we followed all safety measures to the T while at his home.”
