After three months of lockdown, the television industry geared up to resume shoot earlier this week. However, with a lack of clarity on certain key issues like insurance, cine bodies asked producers to make necessary arrangements before starting. After discussions, the issue of insurance cover for the television fraternity in Mumbai has been resolved. According to a leading daily's report, the cast and crew will receive Rs. 2 lac mediclaim for treatment if tested positive for Coronavirus. In case of death due to COVID-19, the family of the deceased will get Rs.25 lac as compensation. A number of production houses have reportedly started all paperwork for policies. Talking about the insurance coverage, producer and chairperson of Indian Film and Television Producers Council, JD Majethia told the daily that shoots can now begin from today (June 25) if the makers are ready.
“We’re glad that the issue of insurance and other important matters are resolved. Policy premium will be paid by producers and broadcasters. We can begin shoots on June 25, depending on preparedness of the makers," JD told.
Sumant Salian of Alliance Insurance Brokers told the daily, "Previously, only accidental injuries and deaths were covered. Now, TV producers are including other medical conditions, including Covid-19, in health insurance provided to their actors and crew before resuming work."
According to the new shoot guidelines, actors below the age of 10 and above 65 won't be allowed on sets. It is also stated that a well-equipped ambulance with paramedical staff needs to be present throughout. Producers of television shows are asked to arrange accommodation for actors and the crew, however, it isn't compulsory.
