Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon passed away in the early hours of today morning at the age of 85. For the unversed, Kushal Tandon is the late political leader’s grandson. His uncle Ashutosh Tandon took to Twitter to announce the demise of the veteran politician. He wrote, “babuji nahi rahe (my father has passed away)”.
As per reports, the senior politician was on ventilator support since June 11. He was admitted to Medanta Hospital, Lucknow after facing breathing problems, difficulty in urination and fever.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid his last respect to Lalji Tandon and tweeted, “Shri Lalji Tandon will be remembered for his untiring efforts to serve society. He played a key role in strengthening the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. He made a mark as an effective administrator, always giving importance to public welfare. Anguished by his passing away."

Shri Lalji Tandon was well-versed with constitutional matters. He enjoyed a long and close association with beloved Atal Ji.

Ashutosh also shared news that the politician’s body will be taken to Gulala Ghat Chowk at 4 pm, where the last rites would be performed. He requested the public to pay their respects from home due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Lalji Tandon’s political career spanned five decades and he served in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council for two terms from 1978-1984, and 1990-1996; as an MLA in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for three terms between 1996 to 2009; as MP in the 15th Lok Sabha; and Governor of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Due to his demise, the MP government has declared a five-day mourning period from July 21-25.
