Amit Kumar, the son of legendary singer late Kishore Kumar, made people question the credibility of singing reality shows. The singer, who appeared on Indian Idol 12 for Kishore Kumar special episode in the month of May, disclosed that he was asked to praise contestants even when they didn't sing up to the mark. In recent episodes, host Aditya Narayan took a dig at him and in an interview lyricist Manoj Muntashir also made a statement about Amit's row.

Now, as the controversy continues to make headlines, former Indian Idol judge Sonu Nigam has issued a statement. In a video on Instagram, the singer urged fans to not take undue advantage of Amit's silence. Calling him the son of the Ustad, Sonu said, "Woh bahot bade aadmi hain. Pehle baat toh woh Ustad Kishore Kumar ke bete hain. Phir he is a man who has seen the industry much more than us. Humse bahot zyada duniya dekh chuke hain woh. Industry mein kis kis ke saath kaam kar chuke hain aur kab se kaam kar rahe hain. Bahot seedhe aadmi hai, bahot shareef aadmi hai. Kuch bolte nahi hai. He has been quiet and maintained a dignified silence uska aap log undue advantage le rahe hain."

He further asked people to end the matter as nobody is at fault. "You should end this controversy. Indian Idol makers are not at fault for asking someone to encourage the contestants and Amit Kumar is not wrong in saying that he praised the contestants. He did not say anything bad about the contestants. Both makers and Amit Kumar are not at fault. Those who are constantly giving weightage to the issue like Manoj Muntashir or Aditya (Narayan) are at fault....I don't want anybody to say anything against Amit Ji. Humse bahot bade artist hain," Sonu shared.

"I request everyone to please, please leave Amit Kumar ji alone and Indian Idol is a great platform. I listen to what the kids are singing on the show and they are great. I request everyone to stay quiet. Ek admi shant baitha hua hai, chup chaap baithe hue hai. Kishore Kumar ji ke bete hai woh.. do not take advantage of his dignified silence," Sonu concluded.
