The Not So Serious label by Pallavi Mohan has always pushed the fashion boundaries at every fashion week. For this season at the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019, her collection Simply Studio 54 revived the glitz, glamour and glory of the feisty ’70s that was a decade of extravagant infamous fashion.
Going retro full throttle, she unleashed on the runway sheer fluid dresses, sinful off-shoulder creations and sexy halters that glowed with shimmer and shine as well as the liquid look surfaces. Keeping the fun-filled, element intact, there were oversized silhouettes for blouses, ballooning sleeves and voluminous shapes. Staying true to the high gloss image there were satin and rich velvets along with lamé that was splashed with crystals, a sprinkling of sequins and seductive feathers. The colours matched the glorious theme as jewel tones like emerald and turquoise worked their magic for the garments on the ramp.
To match the excitement of the show, it was the very sexy and sultry Esha Gupta who glided in wearing a silver slinky gown with a feathered trail and high slit that created the perfect end to the 70’s inspired creations.
While Pallavi embraced her love for retro, the theme of every collection by Sonal Verma for her label Rara Avis is carefully interpreted on the ramp. For Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019 Sonal was inspired by the 17th-century painter, Jacques Linard whose work was seen on the fashionable garments.
The collection was a breath-taking vision of style, construction and finish. The blazer with leather shawl collar was teamed with bottom-pleated pants. Trench coats had rear leather fringes, while long blazers with embroidery had striking appeal. Midi dresses, some with button-down versions, drawstring parka, asymmetric gathered dress and oversized vest jacket added to the pizzazz of the look.
The checked trench with cropped pants, a trench coat dress with giant pockets, the elongated blazer dress with low cut lapels and the shirt dress teamed with a fringed trench offered great Winter/festive creations. The tiered, beige, flared, long-sleeved dress and the kimono style tunic as well as the mini along with the checked drop-waist midi, ensured that the collection stayed on track. For evening glamour, the multi-tiered empire line maxi, velvet asymmetric midi with a shimmering midriff insert, as well as the pair of shorts, blouse, pants and bustier followed the glittering theme.
Embellishments too played a major role as abstract shapes and sequinned patterns were handcrafted in jewel tones.
The silhouettes remained somewhat androgynous as the garments offered an effortless fashion statement to the discerning buyers.
Accessories like the fringed bags and the leather obi style belts added to the style quotient of the garments.
