Locked and loaded, the big sartorial guns went blazing on the runway on Day 4 of the FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week. Fueling the atmosphere with fashion extravaganza, the very talented designers showcased their latest collection. It was indeed a star-studded affair with many celebrity showstoppers gliding the runway as well as gracing the front rows of the show.
Here's what unfolded on Day 4 of the fully-loaded fashion week!
SUNEET VARMA
Suneet Varma showcased his first ready-to-wear collection, at the FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week. The collection titled, ‘The Eternal Lightness of Being’ was aimed at celebrating life and living in the moment, with youthful, elegant day and evening separates, with ensembles that transited easily from casual to a more special occasion, with just a slight twist in styling.
Caressing textures using crinkled chiffon, crushed georgette, sheer organza and black, red and colourful thread embroideries, formed the highlight of the collection. Adding to the show glamour were the tasseled short dresses, trousers, colour-on-colour sequin and thread embroidery on long evening dresses with seductive slits and shimmery delicate embellishments, and origami-inspired rope embroidery on jackets. The show also witnessed an interesting and fashionable twist with an unconventional entry on the ramp- short sexy sarees by the designer.
SHIVAN AND NARRESH
The “Fresconian Series” from SHIVAN & NARRESH was a grand holiday wear offering at the gala. The duo created five hand-painted, reinterpreted prints to adorn their creations in the five fashion categories. Each print was an homage to the artists and artisans with shimmering skein lustre and painstaking detailing.
The careful expert hand techniques were the focal point of the collection, as hand knitting, crochet, hand machine embroidery and shuttle needle lace beautifully enhanced the glamour of the ensembles. From design to silhouette the base fabrics selected by the pair included crystal mesh, chain mail fabric, pure cotton, silk, linen, as well as silk jersey and quilted puffer textures along with delicate knits and finally embellished with 3D motifs.
Closing the glamorous SHIVAN & NARRESH showcase was the stunning Miss Universe 2021, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, looking absolutely gorgeous donning an auburn velvet halter gown accentuated with statement crystal accents and eyewear from John Jacobs.
RANA GILL
Celebrating Marrakesh, Ranna Gill’s “Casablanca Calling” collection at the FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week was an exquisite look at intricate designs. It was a dreamy, playful yet modern line of drapes and great prints created in beautiful jewel tones.
Bringing a vibrant flavour of Morocco and the Marrakesh glamorous spice markets to the forefront, Ranna showcased effortless resort wear. The stunning corset dresses; sexy bustiers, blouses, relaxed pants and jumpsuits will be ideal holiday wear. The full-circle, flared skirts that swirled down the runway on spritely models were in rich spicy hues. The hot shades of deep red, ochré, tangerine, marigold, charcoal and neutral black added to the detailing of the giant bows, puff sleeves, rear interest of dresses and the art of intricate corsetry.
The fabrics matched the collection flavour, so it was satin, metallic georgette, lurex, brocade, linen, crisp cotton and stretch velvet that formed the apt base.
PANKAJ AND NIDHI
Pankaj and Nidhi’s Summer 2022 line titled “Marbella” was inspired by the picturesque town of the same name on the Southern coastline of Spain. Gorgeous bright hues danced on the ramp for a happy youthful line of ensembles. From coral to bougainvillea pink and then onto sunny lemon yellow, the palette moved to fresh, leafy green and brought in neutral clay and sandy beige. The fabric surface was engulfed and camouflaged in the most extreme detailing. The layered cutwork embroidery, which is the designer’s fortè was perfectly balanced with hand-cut and thread-edged silk organza petals and leaves that fully covered the flowing tulles and twills.
To add more glamour to the line there were strapless minis, tiered flared dresses, shorts, double-breasted jackets, one-shoulder kaftan, culottes, jumpsuits and bralettes under softly structured covers. The summer trench coat brought a great look for those chilly evenings by the sea. Ending the show was the very spritely actor Sanjana Sanghi, in a dazzling, metallic, pink mini with intricate sleeve detailing.
Such a sartorial high! Cannot wait to witness the magic that Day 5 unfolds.
