India Couture Week 2022: Figuring out Fibonacci with Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna

Mathematical mastery and sheer splendour merrily merged at the Fibonacci collection from designer duo Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna at India Couture Week 2022, presented by FDCI (Fashion Design Council of India) in association with Lotus Make-up.

There was no red carpet but a spotless white rectangular ramp that was the setting for models in silvery sheen and other hues to showcase the collection with its movement marrying precision with an architectural penchant for precision, guided by nature’s invisible rule: the Fibonacci wave.

The designer duo feels that Fibonacci is built for the global Indian, dancing at a sangeet one evening and waltzing across Vienna’s historic ballrooms at another. It is a trendy tale of dramatic fabrics meeting precise technique in patterns defined by Fibonacci’s irrational numbers to give rise to perfectly crafted garments of exquisite grace. Yes, you could see that every pattern in this collection was uniform, built by clear lines and divisions.

It was nice to witness a perfect world as opposed to the chaotic situation in the near past as you soaked in the view of embellished embroidery in nude tulle, breezy organza and opulent velvet. The chic collection saw fabulous fabrics overlapping with exquisitely embellished embroideries into fantastical dreamscapes. A combination of cutwork, crystals and tassels produced visual movement like in a kaleidoscope.

As with the equation of whirling squares, Fibonacci presented a wink here and a flash there with clever use of metallic shine and reflection in the form of hand-embroidered origami figures.

And adding an oomph factor was showstopper Malaika Arora with her mischievous eyes, plunging neckline and high-slit sheer sexy dress.
