Oriental music in the air and the sight of shimmer and shine was what it was at Siddartha Tytler’s show called Shan Shui (the Chinese term for the art genre landscape) at India Couture Week 2022, presented by FDCI (Fashion Design Council of India) in association with Lotus Make-up.
Yes, there was a showstopper but there was also a showstarter! Kicking off the show was Guru Randhawa in a velvet bomber jacket adorned by zari work. And closing the show as Farhan Akhtar in the designer’s signature gold and velvet sherwani with crystal applique.

The collection paid homage to the concept of Shan Shui which literally denotes the water and mountains of the landscape. On view were three segments: cocktail wear with separates and evening gowns; couture comprising saris, lehengas, sherwanis, kurtas and bandhgalas; bridal wear with a few heavier and intricate lehengas and sherwanis. The colour story drew inspiration from the jewel tones such as maroon, navy, olive, charcoal and black.
Sticking to the brand ethos, the Indian look was layered with parkas, trenches, bombers and jumpers to translate into a casual, young, fresh look to couture. The surfacing comprised top-stitch, sequin overlay, quilting and heavy crystal embellishments in the form of patchwork.
And also on view at the show was a prancing red dragon. No, we don’t know who were the two persons inside the fiery red costume!
