India Couture Week 2022: It’s raining men with Dear Men by Kunal Rawal

Men in white! Yes, these were the male models that stood out as Kunal Rawal showcased his Dear Men collection of wearable-art-like couture at India Couture Week, presented by FDCI (Fashion Design Council of India) in association with Lotus Make-up.

The colour story moved on to other shades like dark blue, maroon, yellow, orange and grey. And, yes, there were the men in black! Particularly pronounced was the designer Kunal Rawal who took a bow with showstopper Arjun Kapoor wearing a tone-on-tone embellished sherwani, crafted with signature hems and ornamented with polki buttons. He blew a kiss to girlfriend Malaika Arora (seated in the front row, of course!).

With his signature multi-functional approach to design, Kunal drew inspiration from the medley of cultural and traditional influences prevalent in India. On view was a sartorial alchemy of ensembles which can be easily elevated or toned down, mixed or matched, or can even be worn to work.

A big believer in androgynous and gender-fluid pieces, the collection is replete with flattering garments for every form, shape and style. Jackets with built-in stoles, pattern play and intriguing textures that represents the brand’s DNA were showcased. Models of various ethnicities, age, height and body type glided down the runway in uniquely crafted and styled pieces from the chic collection.

While this was a mainly menswear show, merging art and functionality, there were a few women’s wear creations on display. Incidentally, many men wore and carried off the nose-ring well!
