Drawing inspirations from her hometown Port Elizabeth, South Africa and from the wardrobes of her mother, grandmother, aunts and cousins for her collection at Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI, model-turned-designer, Gabriella Demetriades for the ‘Deme’ label, unveiled a nostalgic fervor on the ramp. The ‘Deme’ label’s look was created from repurposed denim and leather acquired from thrift pieces and was presented in a new light. The designer added her creative touches in all forms and elevated the collection up the style quotient. Muted shades of khadi, blue, brown, grey and black kept the fashion story in perfect control.

The signature sexy gowns floated down the runway and will encourage fashionistas to add the dream-like ensembles to their wardrobes. Occasionally, gender-fluid looks were evident in many of the garments that were inspired by traditional tweed blazers. A cleverly, draped, maxi skirt with strategic cutouts, was worn with a bralette and topped with a sharply cut shrug, while rouching appeared in innovative forms at the waist to enhance the corset-style bodices.

FLIRTATIOUS BROUGHT POOLSIDE GLAMOUR IN VIBRANT COLOURS

It was a relaxed, fun-filled, collection by Aakriti for her ‘Flirtatious’ label. Drawing inspiration from the glamorous, languid, colourful, Italian poolside scenario, fashion trends, as well as the hit TV show, ‘The White Lotus’, the ‘Flirtatious’ label ensured that the Italian influences were in the forefront of the collection. Abstract prints and bright, colours came alive on the tantalizing beachwear along with colourful artworks. Quirky motifs like lemons and beach umbrellas were creatively combined with geometric elements. When it came to dressing up for that glamorous, beachside soirée, the ‘Flirtatious’ label felt that nothing can beat the long-sleeved body suit that could be dressed up or down. The micro mini worn with a provocative front, tie-up, balloon-sleeved, the cropped blouse would make heads turn. For that quick dip in the sea, a pair of boxer shorts and a bralette, topped with a matching robe, would create a perfect trio under the sun and cause a stir in and out of the ocean.

Showstopper Sanya Malhotra was ready for a beach soirée when she sashayed in a bright orange form-fitting, ruched skirt with a sexy high slit teamed with a matching, tiny bikini top and covered in a sheer, printed, orange, floor-sweeping robe.

LIMERICK BROUGHT THE CELEBRATION OF KASHMIR’S HERITAGE

The Limerick label created by designer duo Abirr N’ Nanki, celebrated the rich, cultural, heritage of Kashmir with the collection titled “Song of the Valley.” The fluid, feminine collection floated down the ramp with myriad versions of detailed paisley motifs that were cleverly merged into the jamavars, along with beautiful animal motifs that are often seen on the walnut wood carvings. Turning these artistic patterns into prints, the designers ensured that they gave a glorious heritage appeal to each garment. The rainbow of colours played a gentle melody as an interesting line of hues like green, blue and magenta were brought to stylish forms that were both curved and straight. The fabric selection that started with crepe and chiffon moved onto organza for a sheer and solid story. Flowing, floor-length printed robes, dresses, skirts, co-ord sets and flouncy fun wear, made a quick appearance on the runway to satisfy the requirements of the stylish dressers.

Looking sensational, the gorgeous Shilpa Shetty Kundra stopped the show in a printed, figure-hugging, full-body suit with a strategic cutout and teamed it with a luxurious, matching, long trench coat.
