Renowned Assamese singer Papon is in trouble after allegedly kissing a minor inappropriately
The girl is a contestant of TV reality show The Voice Kids India. The incident came to light when Supreme Court lawyer Runa Bhuyan filed a complaint after watching a video clip of the show. The clip has the singer applying gulal on the girl’s face and then kissing her.
In the complaint filed under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POSCO), Runa has mentioned, "I am shocked to see the behaviour of the said singer Angarag Papon Mahanta towards a minor girl where he is seen to be applying colours on a minor girl and inappropriately kissing the said girl. On seeing the video, I am seriously concerned regarding the safety and security of minor girl participating in reality shows across India”.

Papon has since rubbished the allegations. In his detailed Facebook post, Papon has mentioned that he is just a loving mentor to the contestants. He also wrote that the video is interpreted incorrectly. He wrote, "I admit that I am an extremely affable person and am very convivial with my fan community but please bear in mind that I have been happily married for over 14 years with two children and I would do nothing to cause harm to them. I hold the girl in high regards not only as a lady but also as a contestant on the reality show I am part of. If I had anything to be culpable of, the said video would have been deleted from my social media."
As per the latest updates, the team of Assam police is in Mumbai, investigating the case. The police have summoned the singer for questioning. However, Papon has sought 10 days of time to reply to the allegations, which the Assam police have granted.
Well, we need to wait and watch how this case unfolds in the coming days.
