Actress Udita Goswami has recorded her statement in the Call Detail Record (CDR) case at the Thane Police station Crime Branch. She had been questioned by the Thane Police for four hours in connection with the illegal recordings of her director-husband Mohit Suri’s calls.
During the interrogations, several facts came to light. Sources reveal that lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee, who has been implicated in this case, had egged Udita on to investigate Mohit. Not just this, she also allegedly met a sleuth in Rizwan’s office who revealed confidential information to her about her husband.
Udita has apparently informed the Crime Branch that Rizwan Siddiquee enabled her to procure the call records of Mohit Suri. What’s more, several other celebrities had also engaged the sleuthing service to acquire the CDRs of those close to them. Among these is a certain top actor who has also sourced the call records of his partner.
Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee when contacted stated, "The matter is under investigation and therefore it is not prudent on my part to participate in this trial by media which has been initiated by the Thane Crime Branch in a deliberate attempt to tarnish my image. I am only shocked to note how the Thane Crime Branch are blatantly violating the circular issued by the Maharashtra State Government which prohibits the Police from conducting a trial by media. The said Circular is also a part of PIL which has been filed in the Bombay High Court and therefore this act on the part of the Thane Crime Branch openly amounts to contempt."
Investigative officer Senior Inspector Nitin Thakre has confirmed that Udita declared in her statement that she had sourced the call records of her husband Mohit Suri and was accumulating evidence to build a strong case against him.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Abhishek Trimukhe, more names are yet to be revealed in connection with the CDR case. These are the people who, using lawyer Rizwan’s help and illegal measures, managed to acquire the CDR details. Not just a dozen actors and actresses but also their relatives and those known to them are allegedly involved.
In January this year, the city police had busted an alleged racket which supplied or sold CDR illegally to private detectives and others. Police said that CDRs were commonly used in matrimonial dispute cases, as evidence or for surveillance.
It is alleged that some private detectives were obtaining CDRs from telecom companies illegally for their clients or at the behest of lawyers of celebrities. Over a dozen persons arrested in the case included Rajani Pandit, a well-known woman private detective, and lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee, who represented many Bollywood stars. Both, incidentally, are now out on bail.
