Ali Zafar files defamation suit worth PKR 1 billion against Meesha Shafi

Popular singer, Ali Zafar has filed a defamation suit, claiming damages of PKR 1 billion, under the Defamation Ordinance 2002, against singer Meesha Shafi. The singer had earlier demanded an apology from Meesha for her tweets accusing Ali of 'sexual harassment'.

As reported by Geo news, the notice sent by Ali states that Meesha's tweets have done severe damage to his reputation. It says, "Be that as it may, that due to the defamatory campaign being spearheaded by the defendant, the plaintiff besides special damages in case of defamation further suffered the following damages: Mental torture 2 crores, loss of contacts 8 crores, loss of reputation/ goodwill 50 crores, loss of business opportunities 40 crores".

Ali has maintained that all the allegations put on him by Shafi are baseless. In fact, he has “categorically denied all claims of harassment." In the notice he had sent earlier, Shafi was also asked to delete all the tweets she posted mentioning Ali committed the alleged harassment.

Shafi's tweets were made in the light of the famous #MeToo campaign that has women from all over the world raising their voices against the harassment they faced on the hands of influential men. It was on April 19 this year that she posted:
